GRAND FORKS, N.D. – After its first-ever sweep of Ohio State, the University of North Dakota women’s hockey team is ranked 10th in the USCHO.com/CSTV Division I women’s hockey poll, released today. It is the first time in program history that the Sioux have made the ranks of the top-10.
UND, which defeated the Buckeyes 4-2 and 5-4 (ot) this past weekend, received eight points in the balloting. The Sioux received one vote in each of the past two polls, which was also a first in the program’s eight-year history.
The Sioux will take this weekend off before returning to action to host the consensus No. 1 pick in the Wisconson Badgers (150 points) on Nov. 15-16 with both games scheduled for 2:07 p.m. faceoffs. The Badgers are undefeated this season with a 10-0-2 record (6-0-2 WCHA) and also have this weekend off before heading to Grand Forks.
UND and Wisconsin are among four Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) teams ranked in this week’s poll, joining No. 2 Minnesota and No. 8 Minnesota Duluth. Minnesota State and St. Cloud State also received votes in the poll.
The Fighting Sioux rank second in the nation tied with Minnesota with seven wins, behind only Wisconsin’s 10. UND is also ranked seventh in total offense and penalty-kill.
