Each Thursday, sophomore defensive back Dominique Hawkins will give fans an inside look at the 2009 Fighting Sioux football team.

Volume 16: Thursday, Oct. 27

This is another big week for Fighting Sioux football. Not only do we play on Halloween night, but it is the UND Hall of Fame game.

We take on the Cal Poly Mustangs for the first time at the Alerus Center.  They're ranked No. 16 in the FCS Coaches Poll and are tied at No. 1 with UC Davis in the Great West Conference with a record of 1-0. The Mustangs are a very good football team and have a great program.

On defense, we will be defending against the option.  This is the first time this season that we have played against an option team.  It will be crucial that we play our assignments correct and have good technique throughout the game.

If we play on point and together, we should be okay.

On both sides of the ball, we need to all play together and come out with intensity right away in the first quarter.  This is something we've been missing as a team the last couple of games.  We're preparing for a win like we do every week.  Everyone has been focused in practice this week and we are looking to execute our game plan.

Kickoff is Oct. 31st at 4:00 pm at the Alerus Center.
