This is the first blog entry of the men's basketball team's journey into mustachedom. Junior Chris Clausen, a JUCO-transfer and Australian native, is the ring leader of the initiative and will provide written and video blogs throughout the month-long process as players, coaches and support staff grow their Mo's (slang for mustache in Australia) for a worthy cause.
Movember Blog: Volume 1, Nov. 4
The Rules 1. All team players must start Nov. 1 with a clean shaven face. 2. Then, for the entire month of November, team players must grow and groom their Mo's following these guidelines: - there is no joining the 'Mo' to the sideburns (considered a beard) - there is to be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (considered a goatee) - a small accompanying growth under the bottom lip is allowed (considered a tickler)
The Sioux Mo Boys was founded on Oct. 31 as a team of men convicted to give the space above their upper lips the opportunity to foster a Mo and more importantly bring awareness to the ongoing fight against prostate and testicular cancer as well as bring attention to other men's health concerns.
Watch the first video blog on the topic as Clausen explains the origin of Movember, the rules for the month and reaction from a couple of Sioux Mo Boys and head coach Brian Jones.
Fighting Sioux fans can check back periodically to guage the Mo-growing process and have opportunities to donate to the fund at each of the men's home games in the month of Movember. The first chance to see the Sioux Mo Boys and donate to the cause will be on Sunday, Nov. 8 as UND takes on Bemidji State in an exhibition tilt at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center at 3 p.m.
November Home Games Nov. 8 vs. Bemidji State - 3 p.m. (Exhibition) Nov. 21 vs. UMKC - 1 p.m. Nov. 24 vs. Waldorf - 7 p.m. Nov. 27 vs. Northern Colorado - 1 p.m. Nov. 29 vs. Green Bay - 4 p.m.
For the entire month of 'Movember', the month formerly known as November, the Fighting Sioux men's basketball team and its coaching and support staff will be growing mustaches to help raise funds and bring awareness to prostate and testicular cancer as well as other men's health concerns. Since its inception in Australia in 2003, the 'Movember' initiative has raised more than $47 million globally. All proceeds raised in the United States will be split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
