Brett Hextall named WCHA Rookie of the Week

GRAND FORKS, N.D.University of North Dakota freshman forward Brett Hextall has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Rookie of the Week for his performance in UND’s conference sweep over St. Cloud State last weekend in Grand Forks.

 

Hextall assisted on the game-winning goal in Friday night’s 3-2 victory then scored the game-winning goal on the power-play in Saturday’s 7-4 win. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native also added an assist in Saturday’s game and finished the weekend with a +1 plus/minus rating.

 

Minnesota Duluth sophomore forward Justin Fontaine was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week while Denver junior defenseman Matt Glasser was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

 

In 18 games this season, Hextall has six goals and four assists for 10 points and is tied for the team lead with four power-play goals.

 

Hextall and the Sioux return to action on Friday, Dec. 19 when they host the U.S. Under-18 National Development team in exhibition action at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The puck drops at 7:37 p.m. Central.
