GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota baseball coaches set the rosters for the annual Blue Moose Classic on Wednesday to be held at Kraft Field this weekend, September 25-27. The first pitch for the intrasquad series will be at 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and Sunday's games will start at 1 p.m.
Second-year head coach Jeff Dodson will lead the Green team led by junior pitcher Derek Biermaier (Roseau, Minn.) and sophomore righthander David Lind (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Biermaier and Lind shared the team lead in wins last season with four. Senior Andrew Gudmunson (Minot, N.D.) will lead the offense for the Green team. Gudmunson hit .314 with five homeruns last year for the Sioux. Seven returning players and five newcomers round out the roster for Dodson.
Assistant Coach J.C. Field will skipper the Black team featuring the top hitters from last year's Fighting Sioux squad - Aaron Cook and Jake Magner. Cook and Magner led the Sioux in nearly every significant offensive category in 2009. The duo combined for 16 homeruns and 78 RBI and both players hit well over .300.
Junior David Spies will anchor the pitching staff for the Black team. A southpaw, Spies went 2-0 last season with a 3.98 ERA in 15 games, which were the most appearances by a Sioux pitcher. Coach Field's team will include six more members of last year's team and will welcome seven newcomers.
Admission to the series is free to the public.
