GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota women’s track and field members Brittany Brenny and Kristi Dahlheimer have been named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII University Division women’s track/cross country team by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Brenny, a junior physical education/exercise science major from Staples, Minn., was a first-team selection and was one of seven on the list with a perfect GPA. Head coach Dick Clay named her the top track athlete for the 2008-09 season following a runner-up finish in the 5,000-meter in a time of 17:29.86 and a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the Great West Outdoor Championships.
Other highlights this track season for Brenny include a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meters at 2009 GWC Indoor Championship and a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the outdoor conference meet. She was also a three-time champion in the 5,000 meters (Ron Masanz, Minot State and Bemidji State Invitationals).
Brenny’s cross country season included a first place at the Northern State Invite and the Ron Pynn Invite and runner-up finished at the Tim Young Invite. She garnered All-GWC Cross Country honors after placing fourth at 2008 championship and was named to the 2008 Great West Conference All-Academic team.
Dahlheimer, a native of Anoka, Minn. and a physical therapy major, was named to the second team and was one of three student-athletes on the list to hold a perfect GPA. Following the completion of the 2008-09 season, the junior received the co-Most Improved award from coach Clay, an award she shared with teammate Jessica Clausnitzer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.).
At this year’s GWC outdoor championships, Dahlheimer won the 3,000-meter steeplechase event with a time of 11:46.81 and placed eighth in the 1,500 meter run. Her improvements were marked as earlier in the year at the indoor championships, she took seventh in the steeplechase.
Dahlheimer is the 3,000 steeplechase champion at this year’s Ron Masanz Invite, a 22nd-place finisher at the 2008 GWC Cross Country Championships, and a member of the 2008 NCC Commissioner's Academic Outdoor Track Honor Roll.
The Fighting Sioux women’s track and field team wrapped up the season tied for fourth-place at the Great West Conference Outdoor Championships.
