GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota head volleyball coach Ashley Hardee announced the signing of Caitlin Schumacher to a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday, bringing his 2010 class total to four. Schumacher prepped at Crystal Lake South High School (Crystal Lake, Ill.) where she earned all-conference and all-area honors as a junior and senior. She was named her team’s Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and Team MVP as a senior.

“We are real excited to add a player of Caitlin’s caliber to this recruiting class,” UND head coach Ashley Hardee said. “She has played a lot of high-level volleyball already in her career and to be able to sign a player from the Chicago area and a starter from one of the elite club teams in the country is huge for our program.”

Schumacher played her club volleyball for Sky High (Illinois) and also played libero on the 2008 U.S.A. High Performance A2 team in Tucson, Ariz. She served as co-captain for both the Sky High 16Black and 17Black teams and her 17Black team took third place at the 2009 JVDA National Championship in Louisville, Ky.

“Caitlin is a versatile athlete with a lot of big-match experience that provides us with immediate depth at the outside hitter position and she also has the potential to compete for the starting libero job next season,” Hardee added. “She rounds out a class of players that will help us continue to build this program the right way.”

Schumacher joins the trio of setter Nikki Husfeldt (Andover, Minn.), setter/rightside hitter Ellen Krueger (Lakeville, Minn.) and middle blocker Alysha Reinhardt (Andover, Minn.), who all signed NLI’s last week to play for the Fighting Sioux.
