Senior Kyle Downs (Hibbing, Minn.) ran to a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Ron Masanz Invitational on Saturday.

MOORHEAD, MINN. -- The Fighting Sioux men’s track and field team provided many stand-out performances at the Ron Masanz Invitational on Saturday. The meet, held at the Ron Masanz Track at Alex Nemzek Stadium, was hosted by the University of Minnesota, Moorhead and featured teams from Concordia College, Dickinson State, North Dakota State, St. John’s, the University of Mary and UND.

 

Brandon Uehran (Jr., Brookings, S.D.) ran to a 13th place finish in the 200-meter dash with his time of :23.04. Brian Nelson (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) finished the event 36th (:24.57).

 

Uehran later earned an 11th place finish in the triple jump (41-7 ¾”).

 

Chris Stoks (Fr., Virginia, Minn.) set the pace for UND in the 400-meter dash, finishing the event in a time of :48.55 for third place. Mark Barclay (Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.) finished 15th in the race (:50.68) while Nelson took 27th (:54.30).

 

Grand Forks, N.D., native Matt Elbert finished the 400-meter hurdles in fifth place in a time of :58.30.

 

Newcomer Tyler Rose (Brainerd, Minn.) finished the 800-meter run in a time of 2:01.91 for 16th place while Kyle Downs (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) finished 30th (2:10.21).

 

Downs came back in a big way in the 1,500-meter run, taking first place in a time of 3:59.70. Rose finished seventh in the race (4:08.67) while Cory Absey (So., Grand Forks, N.D.) finished 12th (4:16.32) and Joss Blatherwick (So., Bottineau, N.D.) took 20th (4:27.32).

 

Josh LaBlanc (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) captured a third place finish in the 5,000-meter run with his time of 15:28.91.Carl Sedgeman (Fr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) took 16th in the event (17:54.67).

 

Nick Wilkens (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) earned a fourth place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-2 ¾” before taking fifth place finish in the long jump (20-11 ¾”).

 

Seniors Jay Schroeder (Cavalier, N.D.) and Eric Johnson (Chaska, Minn.) led the Fighting Sioux in the pole vault. Schroeder’s leap of 14-3 ¼” earned a 10th place finish while Johnson’s jump of 13-9 ¼” solidified an 11th place finish.

 

Travis Schultz (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) earned UND’s only finals round finish in the throwing events. Schultz earned a ninth place finish in the shot put with his throw of 44-11 ½”.

The Fighting Sioux will compete in their final regular season meet on Thursday, May 7th, when they participate in the University of Sioux Falls Last Chance Meet.
