We arrived back in Grand Forks at around 4:00 on Easter morning after a tournament in Kansas City, Mo. Over the weekend, we competed against UMKC and South Dakota.
My suitemates and I had every intention of going to church; however, we were completely exhausted and slept well past church time.
We woke up around 1 p.m. and decided that we should most likely get some lunch. However, seeing as how it was Easter, there wasn’t a large selection of dining options to choose from.
Nothing says “Welcome to college” quite like Easter lunch at McDonald’s.
In a failed attempt to be holy on Easter, we sat, huddled together, in our small booth in the corner of the golden arches and delivered an extensive prayer before absolutely demolishing our burgers and fries.
Nothing says “Welcome to college softball in North Dakota” quite like finishing lunch at McDonald’s on Easter Sunday and then driving to the field to shovel ice in a failed attempt to make it playable for games the next day.
We spent a sufficient amount of time raking, shoveling, putting up the wind screen, and picking up the array of miscellaneous trash that littered the field and its surrounding areas. And although initially the field looked like a lost cause (and by a lost cause I mean a swamp), when we were through it actually looked surprisingly good. We got rid of enough water that it could have possibly even been playable for our games the next day.
As we were packing up our belongings to depart from the fields it began to rain. We were not impressed.
