GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- After beating a Top 25 team last week, the University of North Dakota football team once again sees the potential it can achieve. The previous two weeks were marred by losses, something that doesn't happen in this program very often. But with hard work and an error-free game, the Fighting Sioux knocked off Cal Poly at the Alerus Center last Saturday.
"It really shows how good we can be," senior offensive lineman Kyle Bondy said. "It shows how hard we work because every week is a grind."
The next goal? Keeping consistent.
The focus at this week's media day centered on the UND football team itself. With an up-and-down emotional season to this point, it's clear to the team that if they focus on doing things right, the rest will fall into place.
Bondy said the Fighting Sioux need to keep the foot on the pedal.
"We need to stay focused on what we need to do, and get better at the little things," Bondy said.
Home finale
This game will mark the end of the home games for the football team, and the last time the seniors will play in the Alerus Center. For Bondy and others, it will be one to remember, but the Sioux know there's more to play down the line.
"I'll definitely take a look around and make sure I enjoy this one, my last one in the Alerus Center," Bondy said. "Hopefully we can get a big crowd, a 'W' and sing the school song at the end of the day."
Head coach Chris Mussman said it will be a tough to say goodbye to this senior class, but they will be remembered for many great things to the program.
"Last year we had some characters, this year we have character," Mussman said, adding that they're work ethic will show the way for the underclassmen as the Sioux complete the Division I transition.
Honoring heroes
The Fighting Sioux will also be honoring heroes at Saturday's game. Police officers, firefighters, EMTs and military personal can receive free tickets for themselves and up to three dependents. There will also be special in-game promotions and presentations honoring those individuals.
National College Football Day
Saturday will also mark National College Football Day, oberved on the first Saturday in November to pay tribute to a significant moment in our national history. On Nov. 6, 1869, Rutgers defeated Princeton 6-4, creating a lasting legacy that would evolve in collegiate football athletics.
